Chef Oumar Diouf
Executive Chef | Entrepreneur | Culinary Storyteller

Chef Oumar Diouf is a Senegalese-born executive chef, entrepreneur, and cultural storyteller whose culinary journey is rooted in resilience, migration, and a profound respect for heritage. He began cooking at age thirteen, learning the traditional dishes of his family before expanding his perspective through years of immersion in the kitchens and food cultures of Argentina and Brazil. Nearly two decades in Latin America shaped his command of flavor, discipline, and the power of food to carry memory across borders.
After moving to the United States, Chef Oumar became known for presenting African cuisine with clarity, confidence, and contemporary relevance. In the San Francisco Bay Area, he founded and led The Damel, a pioneering culinary brand and restaurant built on West African foundations, modern technique, and global influences. Over five years, The Damel earned a devoted following and helped broaden the conversation around what contemporary African food could be in America.

Today, The Damel continues its evolution in Miami through private dining, catering, pop-ups, cultural activations, and chef-led culinary experiences. Chef Oumar's plans for the brand include expanding its presence through strategic hospitality partnerships, recurring dining experiences, and a future permanent concept that brings West African food, culture, and storytelling to a wider audience.
His cuisine and entrepreneurial story have been featured by Nasdaq's Faces of Entrepreneurship, VICE Munchies, the San Francisco Chronicle, Cuisine Noir, Travel Noire, and other media outlets. These features have recognized not only his cooking, but also his work as a cultural bridge connecting Africa, Latin America, and the United States.

Beyond the kitchen, Chef Oumar is committed to sustainability, mentorship, culinary education, and the preservation of cultural heritage. His memoir-cookbook, The Universal Language of Flavors: A Chef's Journey of Culture, Resilience, and Fusion, brings together personal history, recipes, and reflection, inviting readers to experience food as a shared language capable of connecting people across cultures and borders.
Extending that mission into technology, he recently launched Slap Chef, a chef-driven health and wellness app designed to help people build better eating habits through practical guidance, recipes, and smarter everyday food choices.
Chef Oumar currently serves as Executive Chef at Arlo Wynwood in Miami, where he brings a global culinary perspective, disciplined leadership, and storytelling-driven cuisine to one of the country's most energetic hospitality markets. Across every project, his mission remains constant: to honor where food comes from, create meaningful experiences around the table, and use cuisine to bring people closer together.
